NUS Mathematics Society is organising an Enrichment Talk by Prof Brett McInnes on Oct 14th (Wed), from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at S16-0436.
Title: Arrow of Time Abstract: We all know that we are getting older; nobody, not even Madonna, has ever been seen to get younger as time goes by. This basic fact about our universe is still not fully understood. In this talk, Prof McInnes will try to explain some ideas, some due to other people, others due to him, about the origin of this "arrow of time". About the Speaker: Prof Brett McInnes has worked on applications of global differential geometry in many different areas of string theory, cosmology, and black hole theory. Currently he is working on an application of string-theoretic black holes to quantum chromodynamics at extreme pressures, as for example in the cores of neutron stars.
